Kim Wilde (born Kim Smith, 18 November 1960, London, England) is a pop singer-songwriter and professional gardener. She is famous for her 1981 single “Kids in America”, now regarded as a classic. Kim Wilde’s career in music has been characterized by hits and misses. Her self-titled debut album (1981) and the subsequent “Select” (1982) echoed the success of “Kids in America”, each selling over one million copies. Kim Wilde received the 1983 Best Female Vocalist Award from the British Phonographic Industry (later known as the Brits). However, the 1983 releases of her single “Love Blonde” and third album “Catch as Catch Can” met with commercial failure.
